MUMBAI: Musician Salim Merchant, along with his brother Suleman, has recorded a youthful version of the Indian national anthem , Jana Gana Mann, which is sung by Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher, Shreya Ghoshal and Salim Merchant.
Salim said, “MTV approached us with this idea. I was really kicked about it. I felt it is fantastic to give something back to our own country. MTV chose us to represent young India. But you cannot really change the anthem. So we have done it in contemporary manner only. It is very youthful with very little liberty to make it sound young. We have done it in term of instruments guitar and piano in very minimal manner.”
