Instruments with a feeling of sad & romantic feel are Piano, Violin, Bagpipes…. for peppy music in whole number with a taste of Bagpipes with a Icecream feel. ‘Omne Baro’ number is a crispy number by shreya with a “classical feel….”
‘ Sanju Mattu Geetha’ track starts with a drop of water. It is solo by Sonu as well as by Shreya. Melodies so sweet!
If only a beautiful voice were contagious, I would gladly spend the next few years glued to Shreya Ghoshal. Her career spanning nine years (and still counting) is layered with numerous film awards and four National Awards. Says Shreya, who gives credit to a lot of people for her success, beginning with her parents: “It's been an exciting journey...a happy ride. But, no journey consists of only highs; that makes it more enjoyable.”
In Chennai to perform at an event organised by The Bengal Association for the welfare of cancer patients and the education of the girl child, the singer keeps the audience entertained for three hours. It's a full house at The Music Academy and people without seats are lined against the walls. Yet, no one's really complaining. Shreya is crooning some of her hits. She starts off with ‘Silsila Yeh Chahat Ka' from “Devdas”, the first film she sang for, and the crowd goes into raptures. Then comes ‘Waada Raha', ‘Agar Tum Mil Jao', and an improvised version of ‘Jadu Hai Nasha Hai' — the audience laps it all up.
“I need lots of claps, cheers and whistles, even if the song is really pathetic,” she says, after a few more numbers. By now, people are shouting out requests. “‘Munbe Va',” says a voice from behind; “‘Bangla gaan'”, “‘Teri Ore'”, “‘Yeh Ishq Hai'”, say others. “I need water, glucose and an ambulance now,” she laughs, as a barrage of requests follows. She manages to fulfill most.
What the audience gets is a delightful khichdi of Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi songs. Having sung in nearly 13 languages, how does she manage to enunciate the words perfectly? ““Whenever somebody dictates a song, I write it down in Hindi according to the pronunciation. The composers too have always been there to guide me. However, it is a little tough to get the pronunciation in Malayalam right.”
Shreya is now looking forward to the release of “Ponnar Shankar” and “Game”, both of which she's sung for.
The list of music directors she's worked with is rather impressive too. But, is there anyone that she really enjoys working with? “Ilaiyaraaja sir is an institution and I feel like a student when I work with him. He likes my work and that's the biggest certificate for me. Also, Rahman sir and Pyarelalji. I feel blessed to have worked with them,” says the 27-year-old.
Not many know that the pretty singer has even been offered roles in movies. “I am not comfortable acting. I am happy singing. And, I don't have the time either,” she says. In fact, she's so tied up with work that she hardly gets time for daily riyaaz. “I manage to do it once in five days. Then, I don't even answer my phone. Sometimes, I sing so much that I am advised to not talk so that I can preserve my voice,” she smiles.
Bring on the beats
Shreya then takes a short break. Round two sees her singing more high-voltage numbers. ‘Honth Raseele', ‘Yeh Ishq Haye', ‘Rang Barse', ‘Om Shanthi Om' … The audience waves banners, sways, claps, and hums along, keeping beat. A group of girls (including three-year-olds) has even turned a corner of the Academy into a discotheque. They are busy shaking a leg, spurred on by Shreya. Seeing the attention the girls are getting from the singer, a gang of young boys too joins the party. And before you know it, they've formed a boogey train and run around the auditorium, with more people joining in.
At 10 p.m., its time for the show to end. But, Shreya still has two more requests pending. Not wanting to disappoint her audience, she requests that she be given two more minutes, and quickly does an encore of ‘Mere Dholna' from “Bhool Bhulaiya” and ends with the hauntingly romantic ‘Soona Soona' from “Krishna Cottage”, all to a standing ovation. Shreya's voice can make one feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like honey on hot waffles. The audience went back home feeling just that way. And now, long after the performance is over, her voice still resounds in my ears.

Shreya Ghoshal gives Ahmedabad a perfect gift on the eve of its 600th birthday!
Her charisma as a leading playback singer was captured in the range of songs that she selected to woo Amdavadis on the eve of the city's 600th birthday. From 'Piyu bole' to 'Jaadu hai nasha hai', from 'Tere mast mast do nain' to 'Pal pal', she became the darling of Amdavadis. She got everyone into a celebration mood that the city of Ahmedabad deserved as a birthday gift. It was almost as if she was starting a love affair with the city.
Melody and beauty rolled into one!
As a medley of soft romantic songs like 'Kaise mujhe tu mil gayi', 'Teri ore', 'Wada raha pyar se', 'Agar Tum Mil jao', 'Oh Bekhabar' set the mood for the evening, it reached a power-packed crescendo as Shreya belted out peppy numbers like 'Yeh ishq hai', 'Zoobi doobi', 'Ab to forever' etc.
Game Over!
‘It’s A Game’ serves merely as a functional score, probably when the film credits are rolling on the screen. Vishal Dadlani does his bit and the track does not rise above its service of background music. SEL have employed a thin layer of electronic blips and beats to give it some kind of a dark edge but at the end of it all you will be left with a feeling of wanting more.
Shaan and the effervescent Anushka Manchanda step in for ‘Maine Yeh Kab Socha Tha’. It’s a love song which is gentle and soothing with an interesting string section that divides the song into 2 halves. It slows done considerably but Javed Akhtar’s English-Hindi lyrics hold it together somewhat. Typical SEL tune and sound that we have heard and enjoyed in Lakshya, Wake Up Sid etc, only a little worse.
Mehki Mehki comes in next and stirs the pot with its horns and piano. It’s quietly funky and finds its ballroom dancing feet when the chorus kicks in. The singing is all husky and whispery with Shreya Ghoshal and Kshitij Wagh on the mike but has too much of a western feel to make it count on the charts. Further down, ‘Kaun Hai Ajnabi’ finds Aditi Singh and K.K. doing an up-tempo pop number. Like the opening song, this one too sounds like a theme song, best used to maybe add some meaning to the trailer of the film. The song tries to be all mysterious and spooky but does not really go all the way. SEL need to figure out one main direction and stick to it instead of trying numerous styles, all in the same song.
Finally, one more thematic version of ‘It’s a Game’ is stuck at the end of the album. It’s obvious that GAME is no musical blockbuster. The songs are here just to adhere to the Bollywood formula and marketing purposes. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics seem almost lazy here with no great lines that leap out and stick in one’s head. It sounds like a classic case of probably having too many projects and deadlines for the composers. Don’t go out of your way for this one as no one is really winning anything here.

Shreya's soulful performance in Hyderabad !
Once there, she began the concert with 'Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gayi' from " Ghajini''. The next song was 'Wada Raha' from "Khakee" which she seemed to have sung especially for the Hyderabad audience. She held the crowd spell bound with her melodious rendition of her hits, 'Jadoo Hai Nasha Hai', 'Bahaara', 'Tujh Mein Rab Diktha Hai', followed by the peepy 'Barso Re' and 'Zoobi Doobi'. But the audience couldn't seem to get enough of the singer. They shouted out requests to her many of which were for 'Aami Je Tomar' from " Bhool Bhulaiya".
The singer also crooned her popular duets accompanied on stage by Shiva Prasad Mallya. Together they belted out 'Teri Ore', 'Tere Mast Mast Do Nain', 'Chori Kiya Re Jiya'. While Shreya took a little break Shiva crooned some racy numbers like 'Dhan Te Nan', 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' which got the audience dancing. Apart from Hindi, Shreya also sang in Tamil and Telugu as well. "Rahman Saab's compositions have a special place in my heart. If I had to choose one song from my career, it would be 'Munbe Vaa'," she said.
After enthralling the audience for about two-and-half hours she ended the concert with 'Salaam-e-Ishq', 'Dola Re' and 'Deewangi Deewangi' which got most of the audience on their feet and asking for more.

Shreya Ghoshal wants to sing in Bengali now !
‘Composed a song… Will get it written in bong. Have bin yearning to do a bong album for a long time (sic),’ Shreya posted on Twitter.
The melodious singer has been off the microblogging site for a while.
‘Back on Twitter after a long hiatus… Wasn’t well. Now much better n recharged after a forced vacation at home (sic),’ she added.
Abhishek, the man behind 'Shahar Ki Rani' !
Abhishek Ray says, "the song required Arabic tone and so I had to work hard with Shreya to change her voice culture". He also says, "'Shahar Ki Rani' is a very urban and funky number which depicts the city of Mumbai"
Abhishek Ray is very much into music since his high school days and has composed music for more than 500 TV serials.
He came into picture with his first album 'Udaas Paani' with Gulzar. Since then, there's no looking back for this phenomenal music director. Now, he wants to go commercial and explore all genre of music.
Abhishek's composition has now been chosen for the official campaign for the tiger conservation programme. He says, "I'm very close to nature and an authorized tiger tracker who is posted annually in various parts of the country for the tiger census. Tiger is an indicator of your 'own' future!"
So how he manages to come up with such influential tracks? He replies, "My musical side is effortless, melodies come to my mind when I'm traveling or even bathing. I don't believe in the concept of remixes, that's just the way of getting quick fame on somebody else's work"
