Gulzar will pen the lyrics for the Hindi version of Bengali movie Nauka Dubi, which will be produced by Subhash Ghai.Gulzar will translate two poems by Bengal's literary giant, Rabindranath Tagore for the movie directed by Rituparno Ghosh.Subhash Ghai explains his choice, "Gulzarsaab is well-versed with Tagore poetry, Bengali and Hindi cinema. He saw our Bengali film, Nauka Dubi, was impressed by it and accepted my offer, to translate the songs for the Hindi version, called Kashma Kash. This will be a tribute to Tagore on his 150th anniversary (on May 6) when Nauka Dubi will release in two languages. He admits to reading a few works of Tagore like Geetanjali, Shesher Kobita, Chaturganga, Ghare Baire and Chokher Bali."Gulzarsaab kept the tune and subtext intact and gave a wonderful expression to the master's poetry. I believe the tracks are going to be big hit amongst all music lovers. One is called Teri Seemaye Koi Nahi Hain the other track is Manava Aagey Bhaage Re. Shreya Ghoshal will croon both the Bengali and Hindi tracks," said Subhash Ghai. This will be the third song of Tagore's translated into Hindi after Chookar Mere Man Ko (Yaarana) and Tere Mere Milan Ki Hai Raina (Abhimaan).

Shreya Ghoshal gives Ahmedabad a perfect gift on the eve of its 600th birthday!

AHMEDABAD: Is it her attitude and style, is it her serene beauty or is it her lingering melody that makes her Shreya Ghoshal? If you believe Jalp Lakhia, a graphic designer, it is her mesmerising style or 'adaa'. If you ask the elderly Pratibha Vasavada, it is her voice. But on Friday night, sitting on the wide open lawns of Karnavati Club and listening to Shreya Ghoshal croon one chart-buster after another made you believe it was the entire package that got you hooked.

Her charisma as a leading playback singer was captured in the range of songs that she selected to woo Amdavadis on the eve of the city's 600th birthday. From 'Piyu bole' to 'Jaadu hai nasha hai', from 'Tere mast mast do nain' to 'Pal pal', she became the darling of Amdavadis. She got everyone into a celebration mood that the city of Ahmedabad deserved as a birthday gift. It was almost as if she was starting a love affair with the city.

Melody and beauty rolled into one!

Humility meeting success, talent meeting beauty and energy meeting grace! Nagpurians witnessed all this and more when they heard and saw Shreya Ghoshal perform live at Kasturchand Park as the grand finale of the Times Nagpur Festival.

As a medley of soft romantic songs like 'Kaise mujhe tu mil gayi', 'Teri ore', 'Wada raha pyar se', 'Agar Tum Mil jao', 'Oh Bekhabar' set the mood for the evening, it reached a power-packed crescendo as Shreya belted out peppy numbers like 'Yeh ishq hai', 'Zoobi doobi', 'Ab to forever' etc.

Game Over!

Shanker-Ehsaan-Loy are back in the house! This is a cliché that will be repeated often during the course of this year and GAME happens to be the second instance for 2011, the first one being Patiala House. Overall, don’t expect anything ground-breaking in terms of musical arrangement (or singing) as established from the opening and title song.

‘It’s A Game’ serves merely as a functional score, probably when the film credits are rolling on the screen. Vishal Dadlani does his bit and the track does not rise above its service of background music. SEL have employed a thin layer of electronic blips and beats to give it some kind of a dark edge but at the end of it all you will be left with a feeling of wanting more.

Shaan and the effervescent Anushka Manchanda step in for ‘Maine Yeh Kab Socha Tha’. It’s a love song which is gentle and soothing with an interesting string section that divides the song into 2 halves. It slows done considerably but Javed Akhtar’s English-Hindi lyrics hold it together somewhat. Typical SEL tune and sound that we have heard and enjoyed in Lakshya, Wake Up Sid etc, only a little worse.

Mehki Mehki comes in next and stirs the pot with its horns and piano. It’s quietly funky and finds its ballroom dancing feet when the chorus kicks in. The singing is all husky and whispery with Shreya Ghoshal and Kshitij Wagh on the mike but has too much of a western feel to make it count on the charts. Further down, ‘Kaun Hai Ajnabi’ finds Aditi Singh and K.K. doing an up-tempo pop number. Like the opening song, this one too sounds like a theme song, best used to maybe add some meaning to the trailer of the film. The song tries to be all mysterious and spooky but does not really go all the way. SEL need to figure out one main direction and stick to it instead of trying numerous styles, all in the same song.

Finally, one more thematic version of ‘It’s a Game’ is stuck at the end of the album. It’s obvious that GAME is no musical blockbuster. The songs are here just to adhere to the Bollywood formula and marketing purposes. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics seem almost lazy here with no great lines that leap out and stick in one’s head. It sounds like a classic case of probably having too many projects and deadlines for the composers. Don’t go out of your way for this one as no one is really winning anything here.
